FEBRUARY FUN // lifestyle

FUNTIME in FEBRUARY Yes its the month  of CARNIVAL. time to celebrate!  Something to really have fun with, find a special costume and mask to wear. There is nothing like Carnival or Fasching as it is called in German .  Its a chance to have some fun, wear funny silly costumes or something more classic. The most famous of all Carnivals I think is the one in Venice , Italy. Nothing compares to a trip to Venice during Carnival.   Here Fasching is for all ages, children dress up and participate with bands playing. Its a celebration dating back hundreds of years. And is held in many countries in Europe - also around the world. It starts on the 11/11 at 11;11AM  So why not have a little fun, raid your closets or find a costume to wear , and enjoy the month of Carnival. Anything to keep one happy and a nice change.

The SELFIE & MUSEUMS// lifestyle, event

MUSEUMS & SELFIES This weekend it is the LANGE NACHT IM MUSEEM , (long night in the museum) event.  Amazingly this  event has be held now for 20 years and for me is the highlight of  fall. I admit , I am a big museum lover ! I could spend hours or days wandering around a museum. I find it so interesting to see and explore all the different exhibits .  So of course this weekend will be a chance for many people to  check out many museums in Austria - such as the Kunsthistorische museum,  Natural Science Museum , the Seccession ,  the list of museums is endless. ANOTHER KIND OF MUSEUM Well now there is a new museum in town,  the no filter museum .  The place where you can interact or pose to take photos in different spaces and scenes.  We probably know many people that love to post selfies, as it is one of the many ways people share their daily life with friends . It is of course not on...

VFW FASHION WEEK// fashion

FASHION WEEK  from Vienna - designer Edith Agay Well this week was the start of fashion week in Vienna and I am looking forward to see what some of the designers are showing and presenting.  Will be interesting though I find some of the designs , so so.  The last few years the designs were a bit quirky.  But wait and see what this year has in store. There are several designers I am not familiar with. One designer is Edith AGAY. She studied with Helmut Lang, Marc Bohan (dior) and others. She has shown international- Her designs are  structural i.e. architectural looking  I would say some were almost futurist like design for a outer space film. Her designs were presented at the MQ this week and included   silver and gold lame, sheer dresses in black and  a few flowy pieces  that I found lovely. images  thomas lech

FORTUNY DEViNE // fashions, event

FASHIONS of FORTUNY When one thinks of Italy one might think of the designers like Prada,  Valentino, D&G and others. Another famous designer who's design were made popular in the early 1900s  and worn by movie stars and Parisian fashion , was Mariano Fortuny. The designs are reminisce of  ancient Grecian style of  the long flowing lines, minimalist  look that is popular now in  fashion. Simple lines that drape over the shape.  Dresses made of fine delicate silk and so finely pleated . It was the rage of the time. Fortuny was a master in many things other then fashion design. He also was a stage designer,  Fortuny also worked on textile designs with his French wife.  FASHION EXHIBITION For anyone who loves fashion and loves to travel  there is a exhibition of his designs being held in Venice at the Palazzo Fortuny held until November.

ENJOYING THE WEEKEND// Lifestyle

A VERY SPORTY CITY It is one thing i noticed since moving here, there are so many sporty things to do in the city. From yoga in the parks, table tennis or tennis, cycling or running. There are plenty of things to enjoy or try out. Yoga to me is one . Marathons are also major event in the city and this weekend was amazing weather for the annual marathon. The crowds of runners and people out to see the runners is also a good thing. Streets are blocked off for the runners and there is a course set for a mini run, a kids run and more. A great way to let anyone participate . Also what is very important for runners or joggers is to drink plenty of water, especially on hot days. But did you know it can also be dangerous to drink to much water. Who knows that, not me? I read an article about the need to drink water, but also there can be a risk. How much water do you need to drink in a day? I know it is about 8 glasses , but that includes all fluids not only...

THE SHOE GOES ON// events

FOR SERIOUS SHOE LOVERS Shoes   we all wear them and some of us can't have enough pairs of shoes. From a simple sandal, to a comfortable runner or a fancy designer shoe. Those ladies that have a closet full of shoes will probably love to see a collection of shoes on exhibition  Walk this Way from April 20 . October 8 at the HISTORICAL SOCIETY- NEW YORK. This is a collection  by the famous shoe designer Stewart Weitzmann  with over 100 shoes from the 1800s to the present . He started his collection it seems because of his wife.  Some of the shoes were worn for the Oscars  and now  one can see some of these shoes  that are pieces of art. SHOE STORIES The history of shoes or perhaps the first shoe worn was found  in  Oregon made of bark and from about 7000 BC. A leather shoe was found in Armenia and dates back to 3500 BC.  In the 15th century , the high heel shoe was worn by both women and men. The rich affluent peop...

MARCH 8 the day woman around the world made their voices be heard. So what was your day like, mine was more focused on women from the past that made changes  or were inspirations to other women or girls. There are several .  Who were those that inspired you or you admired? For me some that inspired me  were the french women   actress Catherine Deneuve, the classic beauty, stylish , sophisticated.  Katherine Hepburn,  the feisty woman who wore slacks and looked chic.  Coco Chanel or Marlene Dietrich  each had a big influence in fashion or films.  Jolie or Amal the new beauties of today. Politically  there are, Thatcher, Gandi, or Bacchelet, Merkel , woman who have made differences  in the world politics , somewhere to make BIG changes. World figures like Mother Theresa  the soulful loving woman , who cared for the needy. Spent her life to help others .  The brave young  girl Malala,  who brought much h...
